Almost five months after he left the country following his deteriorating health condition, Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State will be back to the country today, baring any last minute changes, as checks have revealed. The governor had left the state on September 19 after handing over the reins of governance to his deputy, Sunday Onyebuchi, who has been functioning in an acting capacity.
However, initial government position had been that the governor had embarked on accumulated leave, but it was later discovered that the governor actually left the country to attend to his health.
After months of speculations as to the actual date of his return, the Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, had last Sunday announced that the ailing governor would be back to the country within days.
But, as a highly reliable government source revealed yesterday evening, the governor will be back to the country today.
"I can comfortably tell you that the governor is coming back tomorrow [today]; apart from that, I also want to tell you that he is coming back so strong. Unlike all these speculations that he is still sick; that he is just coming back because of pressure to protect his office, I can tell you that my boss is coming back and coming back strong," the source who is also a member of the state executive council, disclosed.
The source further noted that "unlike in the past when people keep speculating about when he will actually come back, this time around, it has been confirmed. I will even go ahead to tell you immediately that he boarded the flight that would bring him back to the country."
The source declined comment on whether the state was planning any welcome party for their boss, noting that the most important thing at this stage is to wish the governor a safe trip back to the country and the state in particular.
